HOW IT WORKS

Convert OGG to WAV in three steps

Three steps, no account, nothing to install.

01

Upload the OGG file

Drag and drop your OGG files or select them from your device. Music, voice messages and Ogg videos are accepted.

02

Convert to WAV

Keep WAV as the output and start. The audio is decoded to PCM with its channels and sample rate kept.

03

Download the WAV

Save each WAV when it is ready, or download several results together as a ZIP.

OGG

OGG is a free, open container format from Xiph.org. A .ogg file usually holds Vorbis audio, but it can also carry Opus (Telegram voice messages, for example), FLAC or Speex. It is common in games and Linux software, while many car stereos and older players cannot open it.

WAV

WAV is a RIFF-based audio format commonly used for uncompressed PCM audio. It is easy to edit and broadly supported in recording, broadcast, and desktop audio workflows.

FILE FORMATS

OGG and WAV compared

SOURCE

OGG

An .ogg file is audio in Xiph.Org's open Ogg container, usually Vorbis and sometimes Opus or FLAC. Ogg Vorbis is royalty-free, so game engines such as Unity, Godot and RPG Maker, Minecraft resource packs and many open-source apps use it. Android, Chrome and Firefox play it; older iPhones and some car stereos don't.

TARGET

WAV

Microsoft and IBM defined WAV in 1991. It normally stores plain PCM audio with no compression, which is why editors, DAWs, broadcast systems and speech tools accept it without question. The price is size: CD-quality stereo takes about 10 MB per minute, and tagging support is limited.

USE CASES

Use Cases for OGG to WAV

Practical workflows where OGG to WAV conversion is useful.

logo

Edit game audio in a DAW

Game music and sound effects stored as .ogg open in any audio editor or DAW once converted to WAV.

logo

Import OGG audio into a video editor

Premiere Pro and many other video editors do not import .ogg. A WAV goes straight onto the timeline.

logo

Feed voice messages to speech tools

Some speech-to-text and analysis tools need PCM WAV. Telegram voice messages saved as .ogg decode to 48 kHz WAV.

logo

Turn Ogg FLAC back into WAV

Ogg FLAC keeps its bit depth: 24-bit files stay 24-bit, with samples identical to the original.

logo

Work on 5.1 channels separately

Vorbis 5.1 stays 6 channels in the WAV, so each channel can be edited or remixed.

logo

Load sounds into a hardware sampler

Hardware samplers and drum machines load WAV, not Ogg. Convert the samples before copying them over.

logo

Analyze audio in Python or MATLAB

Acoustic analysis tools and scripts read PCM WAV directly, with no extra decoding library.

logo

Keep a whole radio recording

Chained Ogg files, such as radio rips or joined recordings, are converted in full into one WAV.

logo

Open old Speex voice recordings

Speex recordings are decoded to 16-bit WAV, which any editor opens.

logo

Get the sound out of an Ogg video

From an Ogg video only the sound is taken, so you get a WAV of the audio track.

SUPPORTED FILES

Which OGG Files Can I Convert?

Ogg files with all common audio codecs are supported.

Ogg Vorbis and Opus

Decoded to 16-bit PCM.

Ogg FLAC

Keeps its bit depth, with identical samples.

Surround OGG

Every channel is kept, so 5.1 stays 6 channels.

Ogg video

Only the sound is taken.

Chained OGG

Radio recordings and joined files are converted in full.

TROUBLESHOOTING

WAV Not Working as Expected?

These explain most surprises.

01

The WAV is very large

WAV is uncompressed, about 10 MB per minute for 44.1 kHz stereo and more for higher rates or extra channels.

02

Cover art is gone

WAV has no place for cover art. Title and artist go into the INFO chunk.

03

Opus files are always 48 kHz

Opus always decodes at 48 kHz, so Opus sources give 48 kHz WAVs.

04

The conversion was stopped

A file that would decode to more than 4000 times its own size is stopped, because only damaged or crafted files do that.

05

It doesn't sound better

WAV can't restore detail that Vorbis or Opus removed. It just stores the decoded audio uncompressed.

06

It says there's no audio

The Ogg holds video only, so there's no sound to convert.
