FILE FORMATS

Apple introduced QuickTime in 1991, and MOV is still what iPhones, Macs and many cameras record. It usually holds H.264 or HEVC, or ProRes for editing, with AAC or PCM sound. MOV and MP4 share the same structure, but some Windows apps, Android devices and websites handle MOV less reliably.
TARGET
Microsoft and IBM defined WAV in 1991. It normally stores plain PCM audio with no compression, which is why editors, DAWs, broadcast systems and speech tools accept it without question. The price is size: CD-quality stereo takes about 10 MB per minute, and tagging support is limited.

WAV is uncompressed. Decoding compressed AAC to PCM makes the file larger without adding quality.

Gaps in the original sound are filled with silence, so the WAV lines up with the video without drift.

Only the default track, otherwise the first, is extracted. Change the default track in your editor and export again.

Apple spatial audio (APAC) can't be decoded, so it is skipped.
