HEIC
HEIC is the photo format iPhones and iPads use by default, about half the size of an equivalent JPG.

PNG is a lossless image format with full transparency support, the usual choice for graphics, screenshots and editing copies.
FILE FORMATS
SOURCE
Apple made HEIC the default camera format in iOS 11 in 2017. It wraps HEVC-compressed images in the HEIF container, so photos take roughly half the space of JPG, and it can hold 10-bit color, depth maps and several images in one file. Apple devices open it natively, while many Windows apps, websites and print services don't.
TARGET
PNG stores every pixel exactly, so re-saving never degrades it. It supports full alpha transparency and 8 or 16 bits per channel, which makes it the standard for logos, UI graphics, screenshots and images that will be edited again. Photos as PNG are much larger than the same photo as JPG.
