HOW IT WORKS

Convert JSON to CSV in three steps

Three steps, no account, nothing to install.

01

Add your JSON

Drag and drop or upload a .json file: an array of objects, an API response, a Firebase export or JSON Lines. UTF-8 and UTF-16 files both work.

02

Convert to CSV

Keep CSV as the output format and start the conversion. The list of records is found up to 3 levels deep, and every key found becomes a column.

03

Download the CSV

Download a comma-separated UTF-8 CSV. When the file holds a second large list of records, you get numbered CSVs in a ZIP.

JSON

JSON is a structured text format built from objects, arrays, strings, numbers, and other simple values. It is commonly used for APIs, application data, automation, configuration, and machine-readable exports. Records are often nested several levels deep, which a flat table cannot show directly.

CSV

CSV is a plain-text tabular format in which values are separated by commas or another delimiter. It is simple, portable, and widely used to move structured rows and columns between spreadsheets, databases, CRMs, and analytics tools. It opens in Excel, Google Sheets and LibreOffice Calc.

SOURCE

JSON

JavaScript Object Notation, standardized as RFC 8259, is how web APIs, config files and NoSQL databases exchange data. It is plain text with named keys, strings, numbers, booleans, arrays and nested objects. Every programming language reads it, and tools like MongoDB, Postman and JavaScript apps expect it.

TARGET

CSV

Comma-separated values is the simplest way to move a table between programs. Each line is a row, and quotes protect values that contain commas or line breaks. CSV has no formulas, formatting or multiple sheets, which is exactly why databases, CRMs, accounting tools and data scripts all import it.

USE CASES

Use Cases for JSON to CSV

Practical workflows where JSON to CSV conversion is useful.

logo

Open an API response in a spreadsheet

A response shaped like {"data": {"results": [...]}} gives one row per result, with fields such as status or page repeated as columns.

logo

Flatten nested customer records

Nested objects such as customer.address.city become their own columns, so every field lands in a cell you can filter.

logo

List the line items of orders or invoices

An order or invoice with line items gives one row per item, with the order number, customer and total repeated on every row.

logo

Export a Firebase database backup

Records keyed by id, as in a Firebase Realtime Database export, become one row each with the id in a first column named key.

logo

Analyze JSON Lines logs

Application logs in JSON Lines (NDJSON), saved or renamed as .json, give one row per event, ready to filter in Excel or a pivot table.

logo

Review GeoJSON attributes

A GeoJSON file saved or renamed as .json gives one row per feature, with each property in its own column and the coordinates kept as JSON text in one cell.

logo

Import contacts into a CRM

Export contacts from a web app as JSON and convert them to CSV for the bulk import in a CRM, a newsletter service or an accounting system.

logo

Keep long IDs and prices exact

Numbers are copied exactly as written, so 20-digit order IDs stay intact and a price of 1.10 keeps its trailing zero.

logo

Hand data to spreadsheet users

Developers turn a JSON export into a CSV that colleagues can open in Excel, Google Sheets or LibreOffice without writing code.

logo

Load JSON data into a SQL database

Most database import tools read CSV. Convert the JSON first, then load the rows with COPY, LOAD DATA or a database GUI.

SUPPORTED FILES

Which JSON Files Can I Convert?

JSON arrays, API responses and JSON Lines are supported.

Arrays of objects

One row per object.

API responses

The main list of records, up to 3 levels deep, becomes the rows.

JSON Lines

One record per line.

Nested objects

Become parent.child columns.

Second record lists

Large ones get their own CSV, delivered together.

TROUBLESHOOTING

CSV Not What You Expected?

JSON is nested and CSV is flat, which explains most surprises.

01

A list stayed in one cell

Lists inside a record stay in one cell as JSON text instead of becoming extra rows.

02

I got more than one CSV

A second list of records longer than 1,000 characters gets its own CSV.

03

It says the JSON is invalid

The message gives the error position. Comments and trailing commas count as invalid.

04

A big file failed

The whole file is loaded into memory, so JSON of several hundred MB can fail.

05

Some cells are empty

Records missing a key, and null values, give empty cells.

06

Leading zeros vanished in Excel

The CSV keeps them; Excel removes them on opening. Import the column as Text.

JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight data interchange format that is easy for humans to read and write, and easy for machines to parse and generate. Widely used in web applications for data exchange, JSON supports a text format that is completely language-independent, making it a preferred choice for APIs and configuration files.
