XPS
XPS is Microsoft's fixed-layout document format from Windows Vista, created by the Microsoft XPS Document Writer printer.
PDF is the universal fixed-layout document format that looks the same on every screen and printer.

XML Paper Specification arrived with Windows Vista as Microsoft's alternative to PDF. Printing to the Microsoft XPS Document Writer produces an .xps file, which is why many people end up with one by accident. Windows 10 removed the built-in XPS Viewer from new installs, and Macs and phones have no native support.
TARGET
Adobe introduced the Portable Document Format in 1993, and it has been an open ISO standard since 2008. A PDF fixes text, fonts, images and vector graphics onto pages, so a document prints and displays exactly as intended on any device. It is the default for sharing, printing, signing and archiving.

The page may have been empty in the original print job. Open the XPS on Windows to compare.

Rare XPS effects, such as certain gradients or transparency, can render more simply in PDF.

Each PDF page uses the page size from the XPS. Mixed sizes stay mixed.

Damaged or incomplete XPS files can't be read. Print or save the document again.
