RAF is Fujifilm's RAW format for X-series and GFX cameras. Most X-series bodies use the X-Trans sensor layout.
JPG
JPG is the most widely supported photo format, with lossy compression that keeps files small.
FILE FORMATS

Fujifilm's RAW format, written by X-series cameras such as the X-T, X-S, X-E and X100 lines and by GFX medium format. Most X-series sensors use X-Trans, a 6x6 color filter pattern instead of the usual Bayer grid, which needs its own demosaicing. Film Simulations like Classic Chrome are recorded as a setting, not baked into the RAW data.
TARGET
The format every phone, browser, printer kiosk and social site accepts. JPG compresses photos by discarding detail the eye is unlikely to notice, so a 24 MP picture fits in a few megabytes. It has no transparency and only 8 bits per color channel, and every re-save loses a little more quality.

RAF files from Fujifilm X-series and GFX cameras are supported.
X-T, X-E, X-Pro, X-H1 and X100 bodies with X-Trans sensors convert directly. The newest bodies may need the DNG workaround below.
Models such as the X-A and X-T100 use a standard Bayer sensor and work too.
GFX 50S, GFX 50R and GFX 100 RAF files convert. Newer GFX bodies may need the DNG workaround below.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Most differences come from Fujifilm's in-camera processing.

Film Simulations such as Classic Chrome, Velvia and Acros are applied by the camera to its JPEG. The RAF records the choice, but the JPG is developed with standard settings.

RAW files are developed with neutral contrast. Add contrast and color in any editor, or use Fujifilm X RAW Studio to apply a Film Simulation.

Edits live in your editor's catalog or an .xmp sidecar file, not in the RAF. Export from that editor for the edited version.

X-Trans sensors use an unusual color pattern, and every RAW decoder renders fine foliage and texture a little differently. Fujifilm's own software is the reference if you need its exact rendering.

Each new camera model tweaks its RAW data, and decoders need an update to read it. If a RAF from a very recent body fails, convert it to DNG with the free Adobe DNG Converter and use our DNG to JPG tool.

This usually means the RAF was cut off while copying from the card. Copy it again from the original card or backup. A file that opens as a tiny preview in other apps is often incomplete too.
