HOW IT WORKS

Convert ISO to ZIP in three steps

Three steps, no account, nothing to install.

01

Upload your ISO file

Drag in a .iso disc image, such as a software disc, backup or installer.

02

Convert to ZIP

Start the conversion. 7-Zip reads the disc's file system and every file is packed into a ZIP with its folders.

03

Download the ZIP

Download the ZIP and open it on any device.

ISO

ISO is a sector-by-sector image of an optical disc, used for operating system installers and CD or DVD backups.

ZIP

ZIP is the most compatible archive format, opened by Windows, macOS, iOS, Android and every archive tool.

FILE FORMATS

ISO and ZIP compared

SOURCE

ISO

An ISO file holds the complete file system of a CD, DVD or Blu-ray, usually ISO 9660, Joliet or UDF, in a single file. Windows, Linux installers and game or software discs are distributed as ISOs. Windows and macOS can mount an ISO as a virtual drive, but phones and many cloud tools can't look inside one.

TARGET

ZIP

Phil Katz introduced ZIP in 1989, and it is now built into every major operating system. A ZIP compresses each file separately, usually with Deflate, so you can open a single file without unpacking the rest. Compression is weaker than 7z or xz, but nothing beats ZIP for opening anywhere.

SUPPORTED FILES

Which ISO Files Can I Convert?

ISO images of data CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays are supported.

ISO 9660 and Joliet

Classic CD-ROM file systems, with long Windows file names.

UDF

DVD and Blu-ray data discs and modern installer images.

Hybrid Linux ISOs

The disc file system inside is extracted.

Large images

DVD images and many Blu-ray images fit within the 20GB limit.

Audio CDs

Audio CD tracks aren't files in an ISO, so rip them to audio files instead.

TROUBLESHOOTING

ZIP Not What You Expected?

A ZIP holds the disc's files, not the disc itself.

01

The ZIP doesn't boot

Boot information isn't part of the files. To make a bootable USB stick, use the original ISO with a tool such as Rufus or balenaEtcher.

02

The ZIP is about the same size

Most disc contents are already compressed installers or media, so ZIP saves little.

03

Some files are missing

Copy-protected discs and mixed-mode discs can hide data outside the file system.

04

The image is over 20GB

Dual-layer Blu-ray images can exceed the limit. Extract the files you need on your computer instead.

05

It says the image is damaged

An incomplete download or scratched-disc rip can't be read fully. Create or download the image again.

06

Still not working

Check that the file is a real ISO, not a BIN, NRG or DMG with an .iso name.
