EOT is Microsoft's Embedded OpenType web font format, used only by Internet Explorer and now obsolete.

Microsoft created Embedded OpenType for Internet Explorer 4 in 1997, long before other browsers supported web fonts. An EOT wraps a TrueType font, often with MicroType Express compression and a simple XOR obfuscation tied to the website's domain. Only Internet Explorer ever used it, so EOT files now survive mainly in old website themes.
TARGET
Apple developed TrueType in the late 1980s and licensed it to Microsoft, and it became the font format of both Windows and the Mac. TTF uses quadratic curves and detailed hinting instructions that keep text sharp at small sizes on screen. Every desktop system, Office suite and design app installs it.
