HOW IT WORKS

Convert CBZ to PDF in three steps

Three steps, no account, nothing to install.

01

Add your CBZ

Drag and drop or upload a CBZ comic. A RAR comic that was misnamed .cbz works too.

02

Convert to PDF

Keep PDF as the output format and start the conversion. Pages are sorted in natural order and fitted to A4 in their own proportions.

03

Download the PDF

Download the PDF and read the comic in any PDF app, using the bookmarks to jump between chapters.

CBZ

CBZ (comic book ZIP) is a ZIP archive of page pictures, usually JPEG or PNG, often with one folder per chapter and a ComicInfo.xml file with the title and author. Comic and manga reader apps show it as a book.

PDF

PDF is a fixed-layout format that shows each page the same way everywhere. Browsers, phones, tablets and e-readers open it without a comic reader app, which makes it an easy way to share or print a comic.

SOURCE

CBZ

A CBZ is a comic book archive built on ZIP: page pictures in reading order, usually JPEG or PNG, sometimes with chapter folders and a ComicInfo.xml file. Because ZIP is open and universal, CBZ works in nearly every comic reader, including Kavita, Komga, Calibre and Panels.

TARGET

PDF

Adobe introduced the Portable Document Format in 1993, and it has been an open ISO standard since 2008. A PDF fixes text, fonts, images and vector graphics onto pages, so a document prints and displays exactly as intended on any device. It is the default for sharing, printing, signing and archiving.

USE CASES

Use Cases for CBZ to PDF

Practical workflows where CBZ to PDF conversion is useful.

logo

Read a comic in a browser

Open the PDF in any web browser on a school or work computer where you can't install a comic reader.

logo

Show manga spreads in manga order

Manga marked right-to-left in its ComicInfo.xml is flagged right-to-left in the PDF, so readers that support it, such as Adobe Acrobat in two-page view, place facing pages in manga order.

logo

Navigate a collected volume

Each chapter folder becomes a bookmark, so a thick volume is easy to move around in.

logo

Read long webtoon strips

Each long vertical strip becomes one tall page at A4 width instead of being shrunk onto a normal page.

logo

Keep double-page spreads together

Wide spread pictures get landscape pages in their own proportions.

logo

Fix Japanese, Chinese or Korean chapter names

ZIP tools on Windows and Mac often store names such as 第1話 or 제1화 without Unicode. Most of those names are made readable again in the PDF bookmarks.

logo

Keep the original art quality

JPEG pages are embedded unchanged and PNG pages losslessly, so the artwork is not recompressed.

logo

Print a comic on A4 paper

Every page is fitted to A4 in its own proportions, so a comic prints at full page size at home.

logo

Archive comics with their details

Collectors keep issues as PDFs, with the title and author taken from the comic's ComicInfo.xml.

logo

Turn phone-photo pages upright

Pages photographed with a phone, such as a sketchbook or zine, come out upright because the photo's rotation is applied.

TROUBLESHOOTING

PDF Not Reading Right?

These explain most differences between the original and the converted book.

01

It says only DRM-free books can be converted

The book is copy-protected. Only DRM-free books, such as Project Gutenberg downloads or books you made, convert.

02

It says the file isn't really this format

The file's contents are checked, not just its name. A renamed file is refused with a message saying what it looks like.

03

It says the archive is password-protected

Extract the pages and pack them without a password.

04

Pages are out of order

Pages follow file-name order. Rename pages with leading zeros if numbering is inconsistent.

05

The PDF is large

Each page picture is included at full size.

06

Double-page spreads are one wide page

Spreads stored as one picture stay one page.
