Download each track, or a whole soundtrack as one ZIP.

BFSTM

BFSTM is the streamed music format of Nintendo Wii U and Switch games, usually encoded as DSP-ADPCM with loop points.

MP3

MP3 is the most widely supported compressed audio format, playing on virtually every phone, car stereo and computer.

FILE FORMATS

SOURCE

BFSTM

Binary Cafe Stream files carry background music in Wii U and Switch titles. Most use Nintendo's DSP-ADPCM codec at about a quarter of the PCM size, some use PCM16, and many hold several stereo tracks that the game mixes live. Loop points in the header let a track repeat forever without a gap.

TARGET

MP3

MPEG-1 Audio Layer III has been the universal music format since the 1990s. It compresses audio by removing sounds the ear is unlikely to hear, so a song takes a few megabytes instead of tens. ID3 tags carry the title, artist and album art, and every phone, browser, car stereo and editor plays it.

SUPPORTED FILES

Which BFSTM Files Can I Convert?

BFSTM streams from Wii U and Switch games are supported.

DSP-ADPCM streams

The most common BFSTM encoding in Wii U and Switch games.

PCM16 and PCM8 streams

Uncompressed BFSTM files decode without loss before MP3 encoding.

Multi-track streams

Streams with 4 or 6 channels (2 or 3 stereo tracks) are mixed into one stereo MP3.

3DS BCSTM files

Nintendo 3DS uses the related BCSTM format. Use our BCSTM to MP3 converter for those.

A whole soundtrack

Upload a folder of BFSTM files and download the MP3s as a ZIP.

Only convert audio from games you own or have permission to use.

TROUBLESHOOTING

MP3 Not Sounding Right?

Game streams work differently from normal music files.

01

The track repeats and fades out

Looping tracks are rendered with the loop played twice and a 10 second fade, so you hear the music as the game would play it.

02

Instruments seem to be missing or added

Some BFSTM files hold several layers that the game turns on and off. In the MP3 every layer is mixed together at equal level.

03

The pitch or speed is wrong

This usually means the file isn't a complete BFSTM or was extracted incorrectly. Extract it again from the game files.

04

It says the file is incomplete

A file holding less than 97% of the audio its header describes was cut off while extracting or downloading. Upload the complete file.

05

It says the format can't be decoded

The file may be damaged or not a real BFSTM. Some games use other formats, such as BWAV or Opus streams, under similar names.

06

There is no loop at all

Tracks without loop points keep their exact length and end where the file ends.
