HOW IT WORKS

Convert ACB to WAV in three steps

Three steps, no account, nothing to install.

01

Upload your ACB file

Drag and drop a .acb file from a game's sound folder, or select it from your device.

02

Convert to WAV

Keep WAV as the output format and start. Each sound stored in the .acb is decoded to 16-bit PCM.

03

Download the WAVs

Each sound becomes one WAV, numbered in bank order and zipped on the download page.

ACB

ACB is the cue sheet format of CRI ADX2, the sound middleware used in many Sega, Atlus and mobile games. An .acb lists a game's sound cues and can store short sounds itself, usually as HCA or ADX audio. Longer music and voices are usually kept in a companion .awb streaming file.

WAV

WAV is a RIFF-based audio format commonly used for uncompressed PCM audio. It is easy to edit and broadly supported in recording, broadcast, and desktop audio workflows.

ACB and WAV compared

SOURCE

ACB

An ACB is a CRI ADX2 cue sheet. It lists a game's sounds with their cue names and either stores short sounds inside itself or points to a companion .awb wave bank that holds the streamed audio. Sound effects, voices and jingles in many Japanese and mobile games live in ACB and AWB pairs.

TARGET

WAV

Microsoft and IBM defined WAV in 1991. It normally stores plain PCM audio with no compression, which is why editors, DAWs, broadcast systems and speech tools accept it without question. The price is size: CD-quality stereo takes about 10 MB per minute, and tagging support is limited.

USE CASES

Use Cases for ACB to WAV

Practical workflows where ACB to WAV conversion is useful.

logo

Sample game sound effects

Load the WAVs of a Sega, Atlus or mobile game's effect bank into a sampler or DAW.

logo

Edit sounds for a game mod

Decode the original effects or voices to WAV, edit them in an audio editor, then rebuild the bank with a CRI modding tool.

logo

Clean up voice lines

Run noise reduction or level matching on voice lines stored in an .acb, starting from uncompressed PCM.

logo

Find out which .awb holds the audio

When an .acb only lists cues, the message says the sounds are in a separate .awb and usually names it, so you know what to look for in the game folder.

logo

Build a sound effect library

Sound designers can keep a game's jingles and UI sounds as numbered WAVs for reference.

logo

Use game sounds as a video source

Import the WAVs into Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve as clean audio for an edit.

logo

Study a game's sound design

Sound design students can open the waveform and spectrum of each stored effect in any audio editor to see how it was built.

logo

Archive a game's cue sheets as PCM

Keep uncompressed WAV copies of the sounds stored in a game's .acb files so they open in any audio software later on.

logo

Re-encode to another format once

Use the WAVs as a clean intermediate for FLAC, AAC or Opus in your own encoder, so the audio is compressed only one more time.

logo

Compare sounds between game versions

Convert the same .acb from two releases and line the WAVs up in an editor to hear what changed.

SUPPORTED FILES

Which ACB Files Can I Convert?

CRI ADX2 cue sheets with sounds stored inside are supported.

Sound effect and voice banks

ACB files that store their sounds inside.

HCA and ADX audio

The usual CRI codecs.

Encrypted ACB

Decoded when the game's key is built in.

Music ACB files

Usually point to an .awb, which the message names.

Mixed ACB files

Only the sounds stored inside the .acb are converted.

Only convert audio from games you own or have permission to use.

TROUBLESHOOTING

WAV Not Sounding Right?

Game audio works differently from normal music files, which explains most surprises.

01

It says the sounds are in an .awb

Upload the .awb named in the message instead.

02

Some sounds are missing

Streamed sounds live in the .awb. Convert it as well.

03

I got a ZIP of numbered files

The file held several sounds, so each one became its own WAV, numbered in bank order. Sounds have numbers, not names.

04

It says the file is encrypted

Some games encrypt their audio with their own key. Files from the many games whose keys are built in decode normally; others can't be converted.

05

The track repeats and fades out

Looping game music is rendered the way the game plays it: the looped section plays once more, then fades out over 10 seconds. A loop covering the whole track plays once.

06

It says the file can't be decoded

The file is damaged, isn't really ACB audio, or was extracted with the wrong tool. Extract it again from the game files and retry.
